Brow Tinting VS Microblading

If you are a fan of having perfect eyebrows or just a beauty junkie, you would have heard of the terms Microblading & Brow Tinting. Grooming and filling in your brows on an everyday basis is a struggle – well, even if you’re a winged eyeliner perfectionist, it is always difficult to get both your brows looking exactly the same everyday. Both these procedures have become increasing popular lately, they are the go-to procedures for many and often have the ability to completely transform your face.

What is brow tinting?

Brow tinting in layman terms is applying semi-permanent dye to give your brows shape and a fuller look. The tint colour is customised to what look you are going for – dramatic or subtle and then applied on the brow area for about 15mins to give it the shape.

Basically, brow tinting gives the effect of your brows being filled in with makeup – it surely does give you a defined shape and filling.

What is Microblading?

Microblading on the other hand is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo. It is a more long lasting treatment that uses a tattooing needle or blade to add pigment to your skin. Microblading mimics hair strokes to give it a more natural fuller look. You may not even be able to differentiate between the real eyebrow hair & the one that has been micro bladed.

Which is a better option?

Both the methods will involve the artist to select the perfect dye that looks natural and matches your brows. In microblading pigments will be added into the skin and in brow tinting the dye will be added on the surface of the skin.

Microblading is for someone who is looking for long term natural results. Since it is a semi-permanent tattoo, it will last for about 1.5-2 years and will look more natural due to the hair like 6D strokes drawn out on your brows.

Brow tinting on the other hand is for someone who is looking for a short term fix. This adds colour to your hair and gives it a shape and fuller look. It will last for about 30-50 days and is perfect if you have occasions lined up or just want to try out the brow effect before opting for microblading.

Cost difference & time taken?

Since microblading lasts longer and is more natural looking, it takes longer and cost more compared to brow tinting. The process for microblading takes about 90 mins and can range anywhere between 20k to 35k depending on the filling, shape, location & experience of the artist. Whereas, brow tinting takes about 30 mins and ranges between 5k-9k.

You will find a lot of places even doing it at a cheaper price but that is the last factor to take into consideration when opting for cosmetic treatments. Make sure to choose a place with good hygiene and experienced certified semi-permanent makeup artists (SPMU artist).

  1. I’ve always wanted to be a makeup artist for celebrities, so I need the right certification for the job. I appreciate you explaining to me that microblading involves mimicking hair strokes using a tattoo needle to give your eyebrows a more natural and fuller look. I’ll take this into account as well, and look for beauty schools that can give me microblading certification.
